About Me
My background
Max Hewlett is a native Arizonan. He grew up in the picturesque town of Bisbee and loved drawing from an early age. He was recognized for his art talent all through school and was awarded an art scholarship to Grand Canyon University. As a young man, he studied for four years under Charles Turner learning techniques in ceramics, pencil, water, tempera, acrylics, and oil painting. He was mainly attracted to impressionism and realism for his landscapes and portraits. His later studies focused on higher levels of subject matter, light, & perspective. .
My experience
To support his young family, Max altered his career path. He spent 6 years training and working in the industrial world, then started a 38 year career with APS in a Power plant. There, his art skills became an asset. Under management requests, he illustrated equipment and process flows for training, created visual aids for engineering modification requests, and did white board drawings to help clarify problem situations. His caricature sketches of incidents helped to lighten the mood of the crews in the plant. In addition, Max illustrated the Rev. Edward Howard’s book, Miracles of Christ. In 2016, Max retired from the Power Plant but is still called on to provide souvenir sketches for retiring employees.
